Dream Logic in situ
Petrichor Group Show
Chan Hampe Galleries, SHOPHOUSE 5, Singapore
1 July - 31 July 2016
Petrichor is the smell of earth after the rain. Petra in Greek is “stone” and “ichor” is the fluid in place of blood for the gods in Greek mythology, in its poetic sense it means “essence of rock”. There are many theories of how water first began on Earth let alone the first rainfall. One of the working theories was that a shower of comets brought water to Earth. Comets are made up of ice, dust and rock nucleus. With the high impact collision on the ground surface, melted the ice and brought about the first ‘rain’ to the land.
This body of work draws a parallel to comets, my interests have been about the land and its terrain and for recent works I have progressed to reference rocks in space. I have been working with metal and paper to draw a parallel to the formation of meteorites and asteroids, however this sculpture will be without metal as it constitutes a comet not an asteroid. The work will be white and grey as to mimic the falling icy body to land.
Special thanks to Chan Hampe Galleries Team, Ruben Pang for curating the show and the artists involved!
