The Weight of Time
Art Stage Singapore 2015
22 January – 25 January 2015

The Weight of Time are sculptures meant to echo the formation of asteroids, minor planets that are remnants following the formation of the solar system. Due to Jupiter’s gravitational pull, asteroids are prevented from merging with each other and, as a result collide and break into smaller objects and eventually forgotten.
Pieces in this series largely consist of the layering of paper mimicking compression along with new elements of iron oxide and stainless steel; these materials draw a parallel to the formation of metal-rich asteroids. The reflective metal, when juxtaposed with paper, introduces a complexity that weaves the different media together, thereby enhancing the illusion of layering.
