“And the darkest hour is just before dawn” is an extension from the first series, The Secret Lives of Rocks, progressing into meteorites and asteroids-rocks from space.
The darkest hour of the night is midnight and just before dawn- the best period to watch meteor showers. In addition it references the proverb “It is always darkest just before the Day dawneth”, the possibility of hope even in the worst situations, a recurring theme along with the crystal series, the idea of potential and possibilities.
